HALIDON PRIMARY SCHOOL

Halidon Primary School

At Halidon Primary School, Visual Arts is a vibrant and valued part of our curriculum. From Kindergarten to Year 6, students are given the opportunity to explore, create and express themselves through a wide range of engaging and meaningful art experiences.

Our Approach to Teaching

Our program combines explicit instruction with flexibility and creativity. Lessons are thoughtfully structured to teach core skills and concepts, such as the elements and principles of art, while also allowing room for students to work at their own level and bring their ideas to life.

Students explore a variety of media, including drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, textiles, printmaking and digital art. They also reflect on and respond to artworks - their own, their classmates’ and those from different cultures.

Celebrating Diversity and Inclusion

The art room is a safe, inclusive space where all students are encouraged to express themselves and share their unique perspectives. We celebrate diversity through the exploration of global art traditions and individual identity, helping students feel valued and connected to the wider world.

Guided by Our School Values

Our GRROW values (Gratitude, Respect, Resilience, Ownership and Willingness) are embedded in our teaching. In Visual Arts, this means showing respect for others’ work, embracing challenges, taking pride in personal effort and being open to new ideas and ways of thinking.
